labor value
« Back to Glossary Index
the value created by human work in producing goods or services, prior to how it’s distributed or captured.
“Surplus labor value” is the portion of value workers create beyond what they are paid, which is captured by owners or institutions. Whether that remainder should be called “surplus” at all is a separate question.
Example: a worker produces $200 of goods in a day but is paid $80; the remaining value is often called “surplus.”
